A Hunting Trip with Friends in Hunters in the Snow by...

Hunters in the Snow by Tobias Wolff is about three friends-Tub,Kenny, and Frank-who have arranged to go hunting which is something that they do on a regular basis. Kenny taunts Tub about him being overweight and Frank about his affair with a 15 year old girl. Throughout the entire day of the hunting trip, Kenny was taunting the two men. A series of events takes place on the hunting trip which makes it noticeable that their problems are much deeper than just one day of hunting, Kenny taunts and bullies the men on a more regular basis than just this one day of hunting which leads up to the men letting Kenny die in the back of the truck. Kenny showed that he does not care about the men or their surroundings during the peak of the story when he shoots the dog in the head. When Tub asks him why he did that he replies He was just barking. (Pg.170) Kenny says that Tub will be next to be shot as he continues to just shoot anything in sight. Kenny than turns to Tub and says that he hates him while pointing the gun at him. Tub doesnt want to be shot and killed like the dog so he takes matters into his own hands and shoots Kenny first. Once Tub shoots Kenny he goes into a moment of regret thinking what did he just do? Asking Kenny if he is okay, saying that they need to call a ambulance, saying almost that he will rat himself out in order to make sure that Kenny is okay. The Health Care Of America - 1274 Words

Blacks in America are amongst the top percentage of people in America without health insurance. Because these families cannot afford the high cost of insurance, they do not get the health care needed to maintain good health. They must live with the pain and worry of the problem and when they do get medical care, they assume huge debts and another worry of how to pay for it. I have been in this situation of being uninsured as recent as when Obama care started. I will attempt to show some factors why blacks are under insured. Even though Oboma care has made healthcare more affordable with tax credit incenstives there are many still left unisuired. There has to be a change in the way are country health care indsustry operates. â€Å"A sweeping†¦show more content†¦The Republicans and the Democrats are more concerned with paying down the national debt that getting health care coverage for those who need it. So any coverage that a family does have is from the employer if they w ork. Employment insurance in most companies is for the employee only. The employee then has to have money taken out of their paycheck to cover their family members. Depending on the number of family members to be covered depends on how much money will be taken out of the paycheck. Unless we work for a prestigious company and make lots of money the money taken out of our paychecks shorten the amount we take home to live on. So the employee may have insurance but their spouse may not. This is a problem when the spouse cannot work. Another situation is when the employer does not offer any insurance to their employees. The employee is then part of the millions who do not have health care insurance and cannot afford to pay for it. The people who do not have the coverage are those who are too poor to afford it. Many working parents who fall into the lower class are the greatest group of people who cannot afford insurance. Another factor of the uninsured Americans are those who have a lowe r level of education. Generally, the better educated the person the better chance they are to have a good job that covers them and their family. Those who have a high volume income are those who are most likely to have healthcare insurance, and

Safety and Health in the Workplaces

Question: Discuss about theSafety and Health in the Workplaces. Answer: Introduction The most vital legislation that is implemented at the workplaces is the safety, health and welfare at works act 2005 and 2010. This act is mainly designed for the employers and the working employees of different organisations. This act mainly highlights the rights that have been given to the employees for supplying substantial fines and penalties basically for breaches that are discussed under the health and safety legislation (Asfahl, et al 2010). The chances of violence that may be caused to the employees should always be addressed to certain safety statements. It must be made sure that the proper level of safeguard should be available at the environment of the organisation to the extent it is possible for the need of decreasing the level of risk. Aim: The main goal of the report is to highlight the different health and safety procedures and rules that are followed by the Aid Agencies like the NGOs for the safety of their employers as well as employees working. This module mainly aims to highlight the different roles and responsibilities of different agencies to ensure the safety of their employees so that they could supply with proper forms of services to the citizens (Burton, et al 2010). The Main Objective of this Task Includes: To identify the tools and equipments that would be utilised by employees so that accordingly the safety of the workplace could be maintained. To assess the chances of risks that might take place due to the use of different materials that would be exposed to physical agents. To identify the different ways in which the improper conduct or behavior of the people might put the health and safety of the employees at high risks (Friend, et al 2014). Make recommendation on the supply of more instructions and improved training that ensures health and safety at the workplace. Data and Methods: The secondary data has been considered appropriate for supplying with more information on the present topic. The post positivism philosophy and the exploratory research design are perfect for analysis on the current topic (Goetsch, 2011). This design is considered perfect as it extends the groundwork for future research and also helps in determining the information that could be gathered with the use of existing rule and regulations for ensuring health and safety at the workplaces. The inductive approach is considered as essential for a perfect analysis of the gathered information based on the current research topic. Structure: The structure of the report is in sequence as suggested. In the first portion it highlights a brief introduction over the selection of the theme. In the next part the main aim of the research on the selected theme has been highlighted with the vital objectives that are the main part of the report. The data that would be gathered and the different ways in which those would be analysed through the use of philosophy, approach has been stated underneath. Main Issues: The most vital issues behind the research on the selected theme are the less availability of literary materials that are required for a perfect analysis of the subject. More issues that lie with the research on the current theme are that there is no way of examining the validation of the information gathered and these increases the chances of making the research invalid (Mearns, et al 2010). There is certain range of measures that should be considered by the employees, but requires further glare and reflection which was not done properly and thus information on the operators position and the use of different software that is utilised for maintaining the health and safety at the workplaces could not be gathered. The time was very limited for the research and this restricted in exploring more amount of literary materials for gathering information based on the research topic. Analysis: These issues could be analysed when there would be ample amount of literary materials and other sources available for the analysis of the research theme. The time for research would be expanded so that the information is presented after examining its validation (Asfahl, et al 2010). As technological involvement has increased the use of different softwares for maintaining the health and safety standards at the workplaces, information regarding this would also be helpful for further analysis on the same subject. Conclusion As per the legal principles of the health and safety act in 2005 the employees of an organisation could not be victimized for utilising his own rights that has been stated under health and safety legislation like just placing a complaint. This simply means that an individual could not be dismissed from his duty just because of a simple compliant that has been placed (Burton, et al 2010). The Injury board which is entitled for the employees safety is mainly noticed to supply with an assessment of compensation for the individual who is not seeking any proper forms of liability. All types of claims at the workplaces should be supplied to the Injury board for their legal proceedings. Individual Reflection Safety and health at workplace has now become one of the major concern at the workplaces, as member of a group, personally I undertook the research on the current topic to bring into view the different health and safety measures that are now utilised by various public organisations. In contrary to the responsibility I was able to gather ample information from the different journals and websites relevant to the research topic. Personally I had experienced lots of issues while gathering information like there was less availability of information and only general informations were available. Expensive tools could be utilised as it would cross the budgeted estimated for the research. While carrying out the group work learnt about different new safety and health measures which are utilised by public organisations now for maintaining health and safety at workplace. Does Immigration Contribute to a Better America free essay sample

He stressed the ramifications of the â€Å"demographic mutation† (pg 40) that America is undergoing and the fear that this country will become a â€Å"freak† (pg 40) among the world’s nations. The Immigration policy is an extremely relevant issue in today’s society. Although, the idea of immigration being a â€Å"crisis† allows for misinterpretation. Many Americans fail to take into consideration the positive effects that a highly diverse country brings to each individual person. Evidence of the social, cultural, national and economical effects indeed show that with the proper regulations and implementations, immigration contributes to a better America. In the words of Phillippe Legrain in The Case for Immigration: The Secret to Economic Vibrancy , the â€Å"potential gains from freer migration are huge† (pg 34). No matter which way the term is looked at, diversity cannot be seen as a bad thing. Having hundreds of thousands of millions of different kinds of people all living in the relatively same environment is a wonderful thing. Immigrants almost all the time take jobs that Americans don not want. Colonists immigrated to the United States voluntarily; they helped mold this country to be what it is today. Colonists put laws and rules into play to create the law and political system we have today. Slaves were brought to this country forcefully, but have had equally if not more of the same impacts as colonists have. Slaves economically molded this country. They did all of the work while their owners took the credit. Most states, especially southern states, have slave foundations, meaning slaves built that state. Slaves built the White House, where are president and his family resides. One of if not the most important building in our country was built by slaves. When slaves were brought to America it was not looked at as immigration, but an economic investment. That is extremely inhumane; but ,why was not it looked at as immigration. Americans are quick to say immigrants are bad for our country, but as soon as immigrants are looked at as beneficial, somehow all of those views are suddenly brushed under the rug or the furthest from our minds. Speaking about today or even tracing back to early immigration, immigrants have always been poor and want nothing but a better life for their family. In the book The Case for Immigration: The Secret to Economic Vibrancy, Phillippe Legrain says â€Å"Immigrants are not an invading army; they are mostly people seeking a better life And just as it is beneficial for people to move from Alabama to California in response to market signals,  so too from Mexico to the United States. † Immigrants come to places like the United States because they aren’t offered good or even mediocre jobs and school opportunities in their native country. Not a lot of countries are fortunate enough as the United States, but as Americans don’t we believe in equal opportunity. Not just equal opportunity for Americans, but equal opportunity for the human race. Why would we say someone couldn’t try to make his or her children have a better life than he or she had? Are we that territorial as Americans where we shut down hopes and dreams based on the marked lines  of latitude and longitude? Are we that shallow? Immigrants whether child or adult deserve a chance to present themselves with or earn a life worth living by their standards. Many Americans argue that their problem isn’t with immigrants but with illegal aliens. The only difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien is an immigrant has identification paper to be in this country and an illegal alien does not. The average cost of a permanent United States visa is up to or over two thousand dollars. The average waiting list for the United States visa can be up to or over ten years not to mention immigrants  have to pass a test proving that they know enough about the United States. Being that most immigrants are already poor they cannot afford to pay for a visa for themselves and especially not their whole family. If someone did come to America as an illegal alien they could never live as a regular citizen. They could never own a home, a car, and it would be extremely difficult to start school or put their children in school. They would constantly be on the run and fear being deported. Americans complain that immigrants are coming to this country and taking our  jobs, but the jobs they work Americans don’t care about or feel as if they are too good to work them. In the book The Case for Immigration: The Secret to Economic Vibrancy, Phillippe Legrain says â€Å"Many (immigrants) are drawn to rich countries such as the United States by the huge demand for workers to fill the low-end jobs that their increasingly well-educated and comfortable citizens do not want† Immigrants are rarely doctors, lawyers or entertainers; for they always do the jobs that Americans feels they are too good for. Immigrants are usually maids, taxi drivers, restaurant workers, construction workers or in the lawn care business. Americans have different perceptions of the American dream. Americans feel the American dream is social success and wealth. We as a country feel as though the American dream for them is to have a job worth bragging about and having money to buy anything they desire. Immigrants see the American dream as being happy and not being extremely poor. They more so see it as being able to give their children a fighting chance in this country with jobs and a chance to live a life they want, while their parents had to live a life forced upon them. Everyone in America has equal opportunity to live the life they want if they work hard enough, shouldn’t  everyone be allotted that oppritunity? In the novel Alien Nation: Common Sense About America’s Immigration Disaster Peter Brimelow states â€Å"Today, U. S. government policy is literally dissolving the people and electing a new one†¦the fact is undeniable†. The government cannot dissolve a people and elect a new one because we are all in fact one people. If different people are coming into political office it better represents our country. The country we live in is made up of many different cultures and races, therefore that should be represented in our government, because our government represents our country to other countries in the  world. The US needs immigrants because they are different, and that something extra they add to the mix enriches the economy, culture and society. For a start, they tend to be enterprising and hard-working, because it takes courage to uproot yourself in search of a better life and because those with the most grit have the most to gain from doing so. Immigrants broaden the range of cultural experiences available in the US, and this mingling of cultures leads to distinctive innovations. An example of an immigrant innovator is India native Shradha Agarwal , who earned a degree in journalism at  Northwestern University in Illinois. She then founded ContextMedia, a health care media company, and positioned it as a â€Å"for-benefit† venture, a profitable enterprise with clear social benefits. Another example is Ashifi Gogo of Ghana is the chief executive officer of Sproxil, a social enterprise that markets Mobile Product Authentication, a technology used to combat the multibillion-dollar fake drug market. Users can use the technology to verify the authenticity of their medication. Sproxil is used in many industries worldwide, including automotive goods. To conclude, immigrants very much so contribute to a better America. Those who come from countries that offer fewer opportunities to their citizens than America does are more willing to do the low-skilled jobs that Americas aging and increasingly wealthy society relies on, but which its increasingly well-educated and comfortable citizens are unwilling to take essential services, such as caring for the young and the old, and cleaning homes, offices and hospitals, that cannot readily be mechanized or imported. Others bring exceptional individual skills that American companies need if they are to compete in a global marketplace. And immigrants collective diversity and dynamism  helps spur innovation and economic growth, because if people who think differently bounce ideas off each other they can solve problems better and faster. Fears that immigrants threaten American workers are based on two fallacies: that there is a fixed number of jobs in the economy, and that foreign workers are direct substitutes for American ones. Just as women did not deprive men of jobs when they entered the labor force in large numbers, foreigners dont steal Americans jobs-they dont just take jobs; they create them too. Immigrants can be just as much Americans as we are. This country was built by immigration and that should be embraced.
